Cookies

This website sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixel and no session tracking, and it makes no requests to anybody else’s servers.

That is the whole page, really. The rest is the detail, and the reason you are not being asked to agree to anything.

Covers pcguardian.co.uk, this website. The parent console at app.pcguardian.co.uk is a different thing and is described below.

What this site sets

Nothing. No cookies, no local storage, no session storage, no fingerprinting, no pixel. These are pages of text, served as pages of text.

Storage used by this website
Kind of storageUsed hereWhat that means
Strictly necessary cookiesNoneThere is nothing to sign in to on this site, so there is no session to keep.
AnalyticsNoneWe do not measure your visit. We do not know which pages you read, and we have not built anywhere to put that if we did.
Advertising and trackingNoneNo pixels, no remarketing tags, no data going to an advertising network. There is no advertising in this product at all.
Local and session storageNoneNothing is written to your browser’s storage by this site.
Embedded third-party contentNoneNo videos, maps, fonts, scripts or widgets loaded from anybody else’s domain, so nobody else learns that you were here.

The one record that exists of a visit is the web server’s ordinary access log — your IP address, the page requested, the time and the browser’s user-agent string — which is how every web server on the internet is run. It is not linked to an account, it is not used to build a profile, and it is described in the privacy notice along with everything else.

Why there is no banner

Consent is required for storage that is not strictly necessary. We do not store anything, so there is nothing for you to consent to, and a banner asking you to agree to nothing would be theatre.

It would also do a small amount of harm. Every pointless consent dialogue teaches people to dismiss the next one without reading it, and some of those matter. We would rather not add to that.

The other hosts, which are different

PC Guardian is more than this website, and the other hosts do not all have nothing on them.

  • app.pcguardian.co.uk — the parent console. Signing in sets a cookie so that you stay signed in. It is scoped narrowly to the part of the site that renews your session, it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for, and it does not require a consent banner either. No analytics or advertising storage is used there.
  • api.pcguardian.co.uk — the service the agent and the console talk to. It is an interface for software, not a website you browse.
  • dl.pcguardian.co.uk — where the installer is served from, reached through your account.

Payment pages are hosted by Stripe and are subject to Stripe’s own cookie handling. That is the one place in this product where you leave our infrastructure, and it happens only when you choose to pay.

If this ever changes

If we ever add measurement to this site — and we may, because knowing which page a reader gives up on would help us write better ones — this page will be rewritten before anything is set, and you will be asked before anything that is not strictly necessary is stored on your device. A refusal will work, and will not be re-asked on every page.

What will not happen is advertising, remarketing, or a third party being handed a record of your visit. That is not a promise about implementation; it is a decision about what this business is.

Controlling cookies yourself

Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, usually under Settings and then Privacy. Blocking cookies entirely will not affect this website, since it sets none, but it will stop you signing in to the parent console, because a sign-in cookie is how staying signed in works.

If anything here is wrong, or you find storage on this domain that this page does not describe, write to support@pcguardian.co.uk and we will either fix the page or fix the site.

One mailbox handles questions about this document, requests about your data, security reports and everything else. A person reads it.
